Achieving Net Zero by 2030 – SWA’s Carbon Reduction Plan

Over the past month, we have undertaken a thorough analysis of SWA’s carbon footprint, taking into consideration all Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions (see image right). The Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) has been prepared inhouse and the reporting year of July 2022 – June 2023 is SWA’s initial reporting year. This will be the baseline year for all reporting to be compared against in the future.

GHG emissions are reported in terms of metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). An Intensity Ratio of tCO2e/person has been chosen to allow for fluctuations in staff turnover, and give a representative GHG figure for comparison over the following reporting years.

Reasonable estimates have been used to calculate Scope 3 purchases/services, and an estimated average figure for waste generation has been agreed for this reporting year. Following implementation of the CRP, audited waste monitoring and more regular energy readings will be taken to improve the accuracy of figures in the next reporting year.

The findings of our Carbon Footprint Assessment have been heartening to see, highlighting that direct emissions are proportionately very low, whilst helping to highlight areas where further efficiencies can be made in our processes. We look forward to implementing our carbon reduction initiatives and monitoring the results over the coming years.
